Author and Artist Spotlight: Brandon Graham

It would be unfair to say Brandon Graham is a new artist and author. He’s been getting published for over a decade now. But the fairly recent release of his graphic novel “King City” has got my attention.

What’s amazing about this graphic novel is the sheer inventiveness. The reviews at Amazon.com read like fanboys gushing, and could be mistaken for that if most of them weren’t prefaced with: “This is the first I’ve ever heard of this person…” And it’s true, there’s something new and wonderful here. A talent bursting at the seams. A unique comic style. A flair for storytelling.

His style seems to pull a little from the indie comic scene from the late 90s. (A time where Helvetica was still being shunned as too conformist. That’s not a criticism, and it’s not praise; it’s just an observation.)

I’ve now devoured a few of Brandon’s offerings, and am consistently amazed by his penchant for detail in his artwork and how well he carries his stories.

Brandon Graham has hit the scene in a big way, and it would behoove everyone to take a look at his work as an artist and author:
